Couple obeys God’s call to help churches
Mabel and Bud Gilliland have taken obedience to their calls to Lay Speaking Ministries to a whole new level. The Gillilands originally hail from Kansas, but in recent years have been loyal members of First UMC, Aransas Pass.
Their obedience and discipleship goes way beyond “just” preaching. During the last two summers, the Gillilands have taken their RV and lived in Yorktown and Runge. Cliff Krcha, the pastor appointed to the Yorktown and Runge circuit, is required to attend the Course of Study at Southern Methodist University in Dallas. During his monthlong absence, the Gillilands provide the full range of pastoral support to these two congregations.
Mabel Gilliland preaches at both churches every Sunday. Without words, but with their hands and feet, the Gillilands serve at the Yorktown “YAM” food bank on Wednesdays, help with “Kids Club,” take communion to the homebound, visit the sick and make hospital calls.
Paul wrote in Romans “As it is written, ‘How beautiful are the feet of those who bring good news!’” Praise God for the witness of obedience to the call that Mabel and Bud Gilliland give to the body of Christ.
