Youth council sets 2006-07 camp themes

Southwest Texas youth council leaders approved programs and elected officers for the coming year during an Aug. 11-12 retreat at Lake LBJ.
The Council on Youth Ministries set “Nothing Else Matters” as the 2007 Midwinter Retreat theme. The theme is a call to be faithful to the Great Commission (Matthew 28:18-20).
Midwinter sessions for junior high and high school students meet on six weekends in January and February.
The youth council picked “Grounded in Christ” as the 2007 Summer Camp theme. It’s a reminder of the passage in Matthew 24 about building faith on a firm foundation.
Four summer camp sessions are scheduled during July.
The council approved creation of a Servant Team of 16- to 18-year-olds. Team members are to replace junior counselors as primary staff members for summer camps.
Teens can apply for the 20 spots on the team. They must raise their own financial support and commit to five weeks of leadership at Southwest Texas Conference youth ministry events.
Council members approved Nov. 17-19 as the dates for Dive N Deep at the H.E. Butt Foundation Windsong camp near Leakey. That weekend leadership training event and retreat is being done in conjunction with the Council on Adult Ministries.
Dive N Deep is open only to students recommended by pastors and youth directors.
Youth council officers for 2006-2007 are:
