Veteran video producer joins communications staff

A veteran video producer joined the Southwest Texas Conference staff this month.
Randy Mahoney, a member of First UMC, Victoria, replaced Cleo Garcia Aug. 9 as video production specialist in the Communications and Public Witness Office. Garcia, a staff member for five years, took a job at True Research Foundation in San Antonio Aug. 1.
Mahoney is to manage production of video products for conference agencies and congregations, do news reports, supply video content for the conference Web site, and serve on a creative team developing communications products and campaigns.
“I have spent my career telling ‘stories’ for other organizations,” Mahoney said. “Mostly it was just a job. Sometimes I get the opportunity to help share stories that really matter. I believe that this (new job) is such an opportunity.
“There is no greater story to be told.”
Since 1974, Mahoney has worked continuously in film and video production. For the past 20 years he has run his own video production company in Victoria. He has done video productions for First UMC, Victoria, and Grace Presbyterian Church, Victoria.
Mahoney has also worked for KAVU TV, Victoria; Pearlman Productions, Houston; The Production Co., Houston; Taft Broadcasting, Houston; and KUHT TV, Houston.
At First UMC, Victoria, Mahoney serves on the Witness Ministry Team. He has been on the Church Council and the steering committee for a capital fund-raising campaign.
He is a Stephen Minister and is active in the Walk to Emmaus spiritual renewal community.
Mahoney earned a bachelor of science degree in radio, television and film from the University of Texas at Austin.
He has completed courses in film editing at the American School of Cinema, Dallas, and in producing corporate presentations at Maine Photographic Workshops, Rockport, Maine.
