4th consultation on
Honduras
to meet Oct.
The General Board of Global Ministries and Tarrytown UMC are sponsoring the 4th Annual Honduras Consultation Oct. 19 to 21 in Austin.
The consultation is to:
> Support the United Methodist Mission Church of Honduras.
> Celebrate the growth of the mission church and mission opportunities for Methodist congregations from the United States with churches in Honduras.
> Learn from missionary representatives and laity from Honduras about their hopes, dreams, programs and progress.
> Coordinate a calendar of visits for United Methodist Volunteers in Mission teams, including youth teams.
> Provide a forum for Hondurans and Americans to share stories of faith and to worship together.
The Central American mission in Honduras began in 1998 and now includes 12 congregations and four mission churches.
At the fall mission board meeting this ministry became the United Methodist Mission Church of Honduras. The Council of Bishops appointed Bishop Elias Galvan as leader of the mission church.
Consultation participants are to include Galvan; the Rev. Lysette N. Perez-Salgado, Global Ministries; Ronald Davidson, Volunteer-in-Mission coordinator for Honduras; Pastor Jose Roberto Pena-Nazario, district superintendent for Honduras; lay members from the churches of Honduras; members of the Honduras Consultation Board of Directors; and past and future member of VIM teams from all parts of the United States.
