Open House Month activities
to continue through November
St. John UMC, Rio Grande City, jumped the gun on Open House Month with the early August arrival of Teach-For-America teachers in Starr County. By Aug. 28 there was a College and Careers class with six present (out of a possible 10), and members are already assisting in worship, as are our youths.
Special events advertised as part of Open House Month will continue through early November. They include an ice cream party, youth attendance at a Newsboys concert in McAllen, a picnic and birding trip to Falcon Lake, a visit to an unofficial archeological site, and extra potluck lunches after worship.
Our special music will include a barbershop quartet and a local opera-trained singer. On Laity Sunday, college student Neil Shuford will be preaching, with special music by the Young Disciples.
