Dripping Springs church acquires 9.7-acre parcel

Dripping Springs UMC has acquired 9.7 acres adjacent to its current campus to help meet the rapid growth of the congregation and community.
Already divided into three services and two education hours, the church realized that its facilities would be outgrown in a short period. The church has welcomed more than 70 members in 2006 alone.
The church’s Future Team studied options for more than two years before recommending land acquisition to the Administrative Council. After receiving approval from the District Committee on Locations and a favorable Church Council vote, the purchase was completed. The church took possession of the land Oct. 1.
More than 700 congregants and visitors kicked off the church’s Capital Campaign Sept. 10 with a combined worship service on the grounds of the historic Pound House, where the church had its beginnings more than 150 years ago. Choirs, the praise band and a large group of children played and sang for—and with—the large crowd.
Longtime members Gay Lynn and Trey Wilson spoke about being part of the growth of the church from the time it shared a pastor and met in a small wooden building until today. They stressed the need for keeping God in the center of the campaign and the church as the congregation goes forward.
“This was one of the most glorious services I have ever been part of,” said the Rev. David Skinner, pastor. “It’s the first time in a couple of years we’ve all gathered for a single service, and it’s amazing to see how large we really are when we all get together.”
