Order of Elders launches e-mail notification list
The Order of Elders has launched a new subscription group e-mail service to notify clergy members about deaths.
Clergy members can subscribe to the list service at www.umcom.org/commtools/com_resourcedesc.asp?resourceid=1469.
Called “SWTC clergy information,” the group is open by subscription to current Southwest Texas Conference clergy members and their spouses. Nonmembers of the conference who are now serving or have served Southwest Texas appointments may also subscribe.
The Communications and Public Witness Office moderates the list for the Order of Elders. The webmaster reviews all messages submitted for distribution based on standing instructions from the Order of Elders.
The webmaster distributes only those messages reporting information about the death of a clergy member or clergy spouse now or previously serving under appointment in Southwest Texas. The webmaster won’t distribute messages about serious illnesses or about deaths of clergy relatives (parents, siblings, children, etc.).
Information for the e-mail list should be sent for review to SWTC-CLERGY-INFORMATION@UMCGroupEmail.org.
The Rev. Jerry Jay Smith and Jenna Heart headed the task force that arranged for the group e-mail service.
