Christian musician to present free concert

Ken Medema, internationally known musician, composer and songwriter, is to pre-sent a concert of his original music Nov. 13 at 5 p.m. in the sanctuary of First UMC, Corpus Christi. This concert is co-sponsored as an offering of the Ray West Lectureship Series and the Christ in the Arts Series at First UMC. Although admission is free, tickets are required and are available from the music office of First UMC.
From the time Medema was born in Grand Rapids, Mich., he has been unable to see with his physical eyes.
“As a kid I was not widely accepted,” he said, “and I spent a lot of time by myself. Because I have lived with some degree of being different all my life, I have some sympathy for people who have been disenfranchised, whether they have been disabled or politically oppressed or whatever.”
Today Medema performs in a wide variety of venues, from local congregations to televised religious programs, from corporate conventions to annual assemblies of national organizations. Recent appearances include PBS, the “Hour of Power” program from the Crystal Cathedral and a 2003 concert at First UMC, Corpus Christi. More information about Medema can be found at his Web site, www.kenmedema.com.
