8 complete course in lay speaking

Eight lay speakers from the McAllen District recently completed the advanced lay speaking course, “Lay Speakers Discover Spiritual Gifts.” It was taught by the Rev. Tim Brewer at Wesley UMC, Harlingen.
The new advanced lay speakers are Gordon Plunkett, Sara Plunkett, Carolyn Adams, Jacqueline Willhite, Darlene Brown, Debbie Brown, Anita Martinez and Bruce Girton.
There are two categories of lay speakers, basic and certified. Upon completion of an advanced course, a lay speaker is certified for three years and may work beyond his or her local church in caring and communications ministries.
Basic and advanced courses will be offered in the spring. Information about the spring classes will be sent to the local churches and pastors when all the arrangements have been completed.
