Southwest Texan discusses justice
at state meeting of churchwomen

A Southwest Texas United Methodist discussed “Understanding Justice” during the Sept. 9-11 Church Women United 2005 State Assembly in Austin.
Wanda Hol-combe, Southwest Texas Conference peace with justice coordinator, addressed more than 100 churchwomen at the event. Theme was “Let Justice Roll Down.”
Holcombe and Brenda Hardt, peace with justice coordinator for the Houston-based Texas Conference, staffed a display about United Methodist peace-with-justice work across Texas. That work includes “Creating a Culture of Peace” workshops that the two present across the state.
Besides Holcombe, the program included a presentation about “Collaborating to Make a Difference Together” by the Rev. George Bithos, executive director of the Texas Conference of Churches.
Holcombe, a member of Asbury UMC, Austin, serves on the board of the Texas Conference of Churches. She chairs its Church and Society Commission task force on overcoming poverty.
Mary Compton, a member of First UMC, San Marcos, is state president of Church Women United.
Sue Sidney, a member of First UMC, Cedar Park, chaired the meeting planning committee.
