UM Men’s quarterly meeting
slated for Nov. 18 at Memorial
All men are invited to the Austin District Men’s Quarterly Meeting Nov. 18 at Memorial UMC, Austin.
Guest speaker will be the Rev. Bob Lively. He is to speak about “What God Expects of Us” (from the prophet Micah).
Lively is an ordained Presbyterian minister and for the past 33 years has served as a pastor, college instructor, adjunct seminary professor, activist for the poor and homeless, counselor, chaplain, teacher, author, and Austin American-Statesman columnist.
Registration begins at 7:30 a.m. Breakfast starts at 8 a.m. The meeting is to conclude with Holy Communion.
Please bring white socks for the support of Austin Resource Center for the Homeless.

District youth lock-in offers
night of fellowship, craziness
Join us to celebrate the Christmas season with a cold night of fellowship and late-night craziness at Austin Park and Pizza from 10 p.m. Dec. 22 through 6 a.m. Dec. 23. We will meet at First UMC, Pflugerville.
Cost is $40. If you register by Dec. 6, you get a free hoodie. You may sign up after this date, but you will not get a hoodie.

St. John’s member recommended
as 1st certified lay minister
The Austin District Committee on Ordained Ministry has recommended John Anderson of St. John’s UMC, Austin, as the district’s first certified lay minister.
A certified lay minister may be assigned by the district superintendent to provide pastoral leadership for a local church as part of a ministry team under the supervision of a clergy member.
Anderson has been a member of St. John’s for 14 years and has served as lay leader, finance chair, trustees chair and staff-parish relations committee chair. He has been an elected lay member of the annual conference session and been active in small group studies including Companions in Christ and Disciple Bible Study.

My Job Workshop, celebration
set for Feb. 3 at Austin church
First UMC, Austin, is playing host to a My Job Workshop Feb. 3 for all leaders and potential leaders in the local church—lay leaders, committee members and chairs, Christian educators, and Sunday school teachers. Participants will be able to attend two sessions and choose from a variety of topics.
The annual district laity celebration is to follow the training.
The workshop will be in the Schmidt-Jones Family Life Center on the corner of Lavaca and 13th streets near the Texas Capitol.
