Morningside Ministries begins
expanding Boerne retirement facility

United Methodist-related Mor-ningside Ministries has begun expanding its Menger Springs retirement community in Boerne.
In October Morningside purchased 7.8 acres of land adjacent to the current campus along Interstate 10. The additional land gives the Menger Springs facility 31.2 acres.
The new area is the proposed location for skilled nursing and assisted living communities.
Phase two construction in Boerne is to begin with 25 cottage homes and the skilled nursing facility. Other phase two construction includes an expanded assisted living community and an additional 15 cottages.
Later phases are to include a community center and chapel.
“We are very eager to extend the full continuum of care to the Menger Springs campus,” said the Rev. Alvin Loewenberg, Morningside Ministries president. “Boerne has been very supportive of our organization, and we are proud to offer much-needed services to the Boerne area.”
Cottage construction is to begin in February. Work on the nursing facility is to start next summer.
Cottages are to offer three different floor plans. They are to range in size from 1,475, to 1,800 square feet.
Morningside Ministries at Menger Springs opened in April 2004. The campus provides 95 independent living apartments, 13 assisted living and 13 memory care apartments.
Menger Springs is one of four Morningside Ministries retirement facilities. The other three are in San Antonio. The four facilities serve more than 800 residents.
The Southwest Texas Conference authorized a home for the elderly in May 1957. That home, Morningside Manor in San Antonio—the first Morningside Ministries campus—opened in September 1961.
Morningside is now affiliated with the Southwest Texas Conference, the Episcopal Diocese of West Texas and First Presbyterian Church of San Antonio.
