A ‘different kind of children’s
ministry’ brings many to church

By Pastor Leo Carrasco
First UMC, Hebbronville

There are many ways to minister. When most people think of a children’s ministry, they think of someone teaching Sunday school.
At First UMC, Hebbronville, we have an ongoing children’s ministry that doesn’t involve any kind of formal teaching at all.
That is not to say learning doesn’t happen during this ministry because it certainly does. Because of this ministry, children are taught the need and the dedication it takes to minister long-term. They experience the agape love given by someone expecting nothing in return.
Charles Schroeder has been bringing children to church in the church van each Sunday for more than 13 years. He picks youngsters up at their house, brings them to church and feeds them a breakfast taco or two, which he prepares for them that morning.
After Sunday school and church he takes them home with their hearts full of the love of Christ Jesus. Because of this ministry our church is always full of the joy only youngsters can add to a congregation.
