San Antonio college students
talk about ministry with bishop

Nine students from the United Methodist Campus Ministry in San Antonio explored their call to ministry Oct. 27 with Bishop Joel N. Martinez.
The students from the University of Texas at San Antonio and San Antonio College attended “An Evening with the Bishop” at a San Antonio restaurant.
With Martinez were representatives of the Southwest Texas Conference and Perkins School of Theology at Southern Methodist University.
“In a time when the church is struggling to attract younger people into ministry, the evening of dialogue was an affirmation of the vitality ministry holds for young leaders and the vitality they offer the church,” said the Rev. David L. Semrad, campus ministry director.
The campus ministry unit, Perkins and the conference Board of Ordained Ministry jointly organized the evening. Theme was “God’s Call to Ministry.”
Follow-up plans include continued informal dialogue sessions with Martinez, a spring-break tour of United Methodist seminaries and a Feb. 9 evening with prospective seminarians in the Austin District, Semrad said.
