District offers 3 training events to prepare laity for leadership

The McAllen District is offering leadership training for the laity during January and February.
The training will be divided into three events.
The first event will be Jan. 27 for the McSouth part of the district. The session will be at First UMC, Weslaco, from 9 a.m. (registration) to 1:45 p.m. It will include a plenary panel and training in programming areas.
Following the plenary panel discussion time, the first workshop session will run from 11 a.m. to noon. Topics include worship, evangelism/welcoming congregations, missions and Web ministry. From 12:45 to 1:45 p.m. sessions will cover children’s ministry, youth ministry, adult ministry and grant writing.
The second training event will Feb. 3 at First UMC, Kingsville. Registration begins at 9 a.m. Training for the McNorth part of the district will include sessions for administrative areas as well as programming areas.
The Feb. 3 event will begin with a plenary panel at 9:45 a.m. Workshop sessions from 11 to noon will be offered about staff-parish relations, finance, trustees, evangelism, “Techniques on Reaching Out” and Web ministry. Lunch will follow.
Afternoon sessions from 12:45 to 1:45 p.m. will cover children’s, youth and adult ministries, mission outreach, and grant writing.
The third training will be Feb. 10 at First UMC, Weslaco, for the McSouth area. Registration begins at 9 a.m., followed by a panel speaking on “Different Administrative Structures” at 9:45 a.m.
Workshop sessions from 11 a.m. to noon will cover SPRC, lay leaders, apportionment information with Douglas Cannon, trustees, finance and Web ministry. Please Note: No lunch will be served at this training.
It is important for all laypeople in leadership roles to attend the training event for your area of responsibility in 2007. The training is divided into three events to provide better opportunities for our laypeople to receive training in their particular area.
Chairs as well as committee members are invited to join us for these events. Please make plans to attend.
