PARISH CHRISTIAN EDUCATOR SCHOOL IN SESSION


About the Program

The Parish Christian Educator (PCE) School is a three-year quality education experience for local
church Christian education personnel, volunteer and paid, in the Southwest Texas Conference, The
United Methodist Church. The school consists of a series of six courses focusing on essential
aspects of the work of Christian education in the local church.

Participants in PCE School may take one or all of the six courses. Each course includes reading
assignments, writing and in-class participation. Completion of all six courses will entitle a person
to carry the Southwest Texas Conference approved title of commissioned Parish Christian Educator. 
In order to be commissioned, participant must be a member of The United Methodist Church and
be present for the entire session of each course.

The PCE School is a Conference Leadership Development Program sponsored by the Southwest
Texas Conference Board of Discipleship, with oversight by the Christian Education and Formation
Team. It began in 1991 and has continued successfully to present. It is a nationwide model for
other conferences in The United Methodist Church.

Previous faculty have been Rev. Gina Campbell, Rev. Dr. Jim Mayfield, Dr. Elise Eslinger, Rev. Dr. Lynn Barton, Rev. Karen Vannoy, Rev. Mark Deaton, Dr. Carol Krau, Dr. MaryJane Pierce Norton,
and other ministry leaders in the field of Christian Education.
